Through the Geriatrics Workforce Enhancement Program (GWEP) fund the Bronstein department is focused on November and celebrating caregiver appreciation month.
The GWEP fund serves as the active regional support group for eight Dementia Friendly communities, with the goal of rural education, resource accessibility and caregiver support. Across all the communities that we serve, each plan to show some love for our caregivers who look after and care for Persons Living With Dementia (PLWD).
While some think of goodie baskets that are full of candy, Dementia Friendly (DF) Tell City is shifting their focus to caregiver appreciation baskets full of practical gifts. While some think of face paint and a variety of colors, DF University of Southern Indiana (USI) is thinking of rock painting as a form of stress relief for our beloved caregivers. And right on trend, while some think of treating themselves to a candy bar (or two!), DF Pike County is hosting a “treat-yourself” day for their caregivers who deserve a much-needed day of relaxation.
These are just some of the great initiatives that the Bronstein center and DF USI can assist with as we shift our focus onto November. It takes a great heart and a selfless spirit to care for someone struggling with declining cognitive function, and we do not want this to go unnoticed. So as November progresses, our message remains the same - caregivers you are appreciated, and every day we look forward and take one step further in our efforts to destigmatize dementia in our very own communities.
