Q&A with Mary Ann Allen
Where did you earn your nursing degree(s) and where have you worked as a nurse before coming to USI? I earned my ASN and BSN at USI and my master’s at Chamberlain University. Before coming to USI, I worked at Deaconess Hospital on the oncology unit for about five years, Visiting Nurse Association for about five years, then back to Deaconess Hospital for about 15 years in the Education/Staff Development Department.
What will you miss most about working in the College of Nursing and Health Professions? I will first miss the people I have met within the CNHP. Filling Peggy Graul’s position was a bit overwhelming, but everyone in the CNHP was so welcoming and patient! I will also miss the beautiful University environment and the youthful, fun atmosphere.
What are you looking forward to during retirement? I am first looking forward to spending more time with our grandsons and family! I am also looking forward to a little relaxation, reading, walking and exploring Indianapolis.
Anything else you would like to add? I appreciate the opportunity to work at USI and the trust they had in me for this position. Through coordinating the various conferences, I have met so many interesting people who were presenters or attended the conferences; they certainly expanded my view of the world! I feel fortunate to have made friendships which will continue after retirement!
