Shout out to our student leaders! Today get to know Serena Buzzard '25. An accounting and finance major, Serena is president of Accounting & Professional Services Club, an IMA student chapter, and her involvement at USI includes APS Club and Beta Alpha Psi.
Why did you choose your current majors?
My mom is also an accountant, so I have grown up being around accounting.
What advice do you have for incoming freshmen? What do you wish someone had told you?
To join clubs that are similar to your major or that you share similar views with because most likely they are very similar to you, and you will get along well and become friends.
What are your career goals?
My goal is to go back to Effingham, IL, and work for my mom and eventually take over her accounting practice.
What made you decide to pursue being president of APS Club?
I enjoy being apart of something on campus, and I also really enjoy the group of students that are in the club and I wanted to have an officer position.
Tell us more about APS Club and why USI students should get involved with it!
APS club is for any student in the business college even though it is called the Accounting and Professional Services Club. It meets at the same time as Beta Alpha Psi on Thursdays at 4:30 p.m. in BE 0030. We usually have speakers from the professional world come and talk to the clubs, but we also have some general meetings with just the clubs. I love this club because it has helped me make better friends and meet other people in the same major as me.
What are three things on your bucket list?
Travel to Europe, pass the CPA exam and getting married.
