USI Beta Alpha Psi members Kaitlyn Sturgeon and Brinley Willner and Central High School Student Council members teamed up for a community service project this spring. Membership in Student Council requires student participation in community service projects, and they partnered with HUG Alliance to fill more than 80 blessing bags with personal care items to be distributed to those experiencing homelessness. Most of the items for the bags were collected through drives at the high school.
HUG Alliance is a non-profit founded by Jeanette Maier-Lytle, instructor in accounting, to help people with spiritual, mental, and emotional needs. HUG stands for healing, uniting, and giving. "That really fits our theme," said Maier-Lytle. "There's just something about giving something to someone else that helps you heal. So our theme is "healing through giving."
