Shout out to our student organization leaders: Get to know senior Ellie Naylor, a business administration major and the vice-president of the newly-organized Business Professionals of America (BPA) Club at USI.
USI is the only BPA Post-Secondary chapter in Indiana, thus giving us a unique opportunity to connect with BPA chapters in high schools throughout Indiana and connect those prospective students to the Romain College of Business.
Why did you choose USI and the Romain College of Business, and what makes them special to you?
I think USI is a perfect size, it has a small town university feel, with the opportunities and amenities of a big university. I did not know I wanted a career in business until I took a couple classes my freshman year that sparked my interest. This led me to choose the Romain College of Business. What makes them special to me is that I feel like my professors really take the time to get to know me and connect with my professors on a personal and professional level.
Why did you choose your current major (Business Administration Entrepreneurship Small Business area of interest)?
I was undecided until my sophomore year, but I chose to pursue a Business Administration major. I chose this major because it opens the door for many opportunities, and is multifaceted. Since my major explores many fields in business this led to me having a Human Resources Internship last semester.
What are some of your favorite spots on campus and why?
I really love sitting in the Jazz Lounge. It is a great place to sit and watch people on the quad, or see people go into the library. It is all a great place to meet new people/study with others.
What advice do you have for incoming freshmen? What do you wish someone had told you?
The best advice I can give an incoming freshman is get involved! Getting involved on campus was one of the best decisions I have made. I have made many lifelong friends by getting involved in different organizations. I wish someone would have told me to utilize the campus resources. For example, go to the involvement fair, career fair, and so many other resources the university provides. Utilizing these resources will not only allow you to make connections with others, but gets you out of your comfort zone as well.
Tell us more about BPA and why USI students should get involved with it!
BPA is a great opportunity for students to get involved on campus. BPA strengthens leadership and communication skills, and is open to all majors. I am excited to be the VP of this organization and get more students involved.
A fun fact about you.
A fun fact about me is that I love concerts! Last year I went to 12, and this year I have been to nine and still counting! Concerts are so fun, and to be surrounded with a bunch of people who love the same artists as you is so fun.
