Three business majors, Keely Fuquay, Rachel Ha and Andre Hicks, presented to two freshmen classes at Central High School as part of the Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation's AVID college preparatory program. Students in the AVID program have the ability and desire to go to college and are enrolled in their school's Honors and Advanced Placement classes. The AVID program provides them with support and additional tools, resources, and opportunities focused on college and career readiness.
Some of the high school students have never been on a college campus, so hearing from current USI students-about orientation, their involvement on campus and student organizations, online learning, why they chose USI-better prepared the college-bound students to make the most of their upcoming visit.
Jeanette Maier-Lytle, instructor in accounting, coordinated the presentation and is encouraged about the high school students' futures, which just may include USI. "I heard from the Central teacher afterward that one of the students said she is very excited about the possibilities at USI and is super excited about her scheduled campus visit. She went on to tell me that hearing from our students inspired her and reinforced her need to take tougher courses to better prepare for college."
We can't wait to meet these future Screaming Eagles!
