Faculty from the Romain College of Business participated in the annual Junior Achievement JobSpark event held October 25-26, 2022, at the Old National Events Plaza. Representing the management, computer information systems, and computer science programs were Mr. Josh McWilliams, Instructor in CIS; Dr. Jiaying Liu, Instructor in CIS; and Dr. Abbas Foroughi, Chair of Management Information, Professor of CIS.
Each day, more than 3,000 eighth graders and their teachers from schools in southwest Indiana and southeast Illinois attended the hands-on career expo. JobSpark is designed to spark an interest in young people about their future careers: to learn about skills needed for jobs that will be in demand when they graduate, to gain a better understanding of the courses they will need to take in high school and in post-secondary programs, and to develop a clear career pathway that aligns with their interests. This year's event sponsor was CenterPoint Energy.
Throughout the two-day event, students had the opportunity to visit the booths of regional companies and industries, as well as regional educational institutions such as USI. Mr. McWilliams, Dr. Liu, and Dr. Foroughi shared information about the Romain College's management, computer science, and computer information systems programs, showing videos and displaying the drone developed by students in a capstone CIS/CS Senior Projects course.
