The Master of Arts in Communication program admits students for the fall and spring semesters. The application deadlines are August 15 for fall admittance and December 16 for spring admittance each year.

Pre-Requisite Coursework or Degrees

The Master of Arts in Communication requires that applicants hold a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree from a regionally or comparably accredited institution. Although applicants do not need to hold an undergraduate degree in an area of communication, preference will be given to applicants with an educational background in communication or other social sciences disciplines.

Application Materials

To get started, complete the following four steps:

1.) A completed USI Application for Graduate Study and application fee.

2.) Upload the following to your application account:

  • Letter of intent
This 1-2 page letter explains your interest in the MAC and how you see this program of study enhancing your educational and/or professional goals. This letter is required for students with an undergraduate GPA under 3.0, and is optional for students with an undergraduate GPA over 3.0.

3.) Submit official transcripts to Graduate Studies.

  • Official electronic transcripts are preferred and can be emailed from the previous institution to Graduate.Studies@usi.edu

  • Mailed transcripts can be sent to this address:
    Graduate Studies
    University of Southern Indiana
    8600 University Blvd.
    Evansville, IN 47712

4.) International students may be required to provide additional information.

Conditional Admission

Students not meeting the criteria for unconditional admission into the Master of Arts in Communication program may be admitted depending on the following factors:

  • Availability of space.
  • In cases where space is available, applicants will receive preference on the basis of grade point average and the quality of the letter of intent.
  • Conditionally admitted individuals can achieve unconditional status following 12 hours of coursework if they hold a graduate GPA of 3.0 or higher. Both unconditionally and conditionally admitted students failing to attain a graduate 3.0 GPA after twelve credit hours will be academically dismissed from the program.
