By earning a public relations and advertising minor, you’ll learn to produce effective, accessible, digital and multimedia communications independently and collaboratively to manage specific stakeholder relations and/or issues to achieve organizational objectives. Classes will monitor emerging social and economic trends on local, national and global issues guiding strategies, tactics, planning, implementation and evaluation of messages and campaigns. You’ll develop critical thinking, analytical and problem-solving skills as you research and analyze publics and audiences, media channels, and public opinion in an effort to optimize the messages and the outcomes for organizations.
This integrated communications approach, use of technology and application of industry standards for ethical and professional behavior builds the foundation for you to excel in the growing job market post-graduation.
Additional credit hours could indicate a major, second minor, or certificate. A minimum of 120 credit hours is required to graduate.
An undergraduate student should initiate a Change of Academic Program if they wish to add or remove a minor.
The student obtains a Change of Academic Program form from the Registrar's Office or the department of the new major/minor, secures the signature of the department chair/director (or dean) of any major/minor to be added, and returns the form to the Registrar's Office for processing.
A student must submit the completed form by the Thursday before priority registration if the change is to be made within the current semester. Unless granted a waiver by the department of the new major, the student must meet all current program requirements for graduation.
The minor in public relations and advertising fits well with nearly every major because the knowledge learned in the minor applies to most work environments and enables future employees to improve verbal, visual, written and presentation skills.
