Generations is the Area 13 Agency on Aging & Disability serving the counties of Daviess, Dubois, Greene, Knox, Martin and Pike. Their mission is to offer older adults, individuals with disabilities and their caregivers options for a better quality of life. For the past several years, Generations has partnered with the University of Southern Indiana to provide programming and activities that are outlined in the Geriatrics Workforce Enhancement Program (GWEP) grant that USI was awarded by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA).
Generations is no stranger to education. We pride ourselves on the educational programs we provide that promote healthy aging and the dementia education programming we offer.
Education is an integral part of the role that Generations plays in the GWEP grant. The agency is currently offering our two evidence-based programs, Living a Healthy Life with Chronic Conditions and Matter of Balance throughout the 12-county region that the GWEP serves. In addition, Generations provides local coordination of Dementia Friendly Petersburg, part of the Dementia Friendly America network, working to reduce the stigma of dementia and create a livable community in Pike County for those living with dementia and their loved ones.
Generations also partners with Senior Education Ministries to present Dine with a Doc® every month. This program allows participants to enjoy a free lunch and listen/learn from a different doctor each month. Generations also offers advance care planning education. Generations' most recent endeavor combines education with the fight against social isolation. SecureSeniorConnections® is a secure online community exclusively for people age 60 and over. This is a safe platform where older adults can connect with new people who share similar interests/hobbies, explore educational content and attend online events on topics ranging from fitness and finance to art and technology. Additional information about SecureSeniorConnections® is available on the Generations website.
