Southwest Indiana AHEC works to foster young students' interest in healthcare, while promoting academic preparation to ensure future success in their careers. Programs targeting middle school and high school students include:
School Presentations
Regional schools and youth-serving programs can request presentations and activities related to college readiness and health professions. These can be either during the school day or after school. The Southwest Indiana AHEC staff will tailor the experience to meet the needs of your school or program. Presentation topics include information on health careers (overview or in-depth), college preparation, healthy lifestyles and good decision-making.
Participation in Career Fairs
Southwest Indiana AHEC staff members are available to participate in your career fair. We will provide information on the vast array of available health careers, post-secondary educational opportunities to prepare for health careers in southwest Indiana, and workforce information related to health careers.
College Campus Visits
Southwest Indiana AHEC provides opportunities for educators to bring their students to a local college campus. This visit allows students to participate in hands-on activities with health professions programs, to experience what it is like to be on a college campus, and to have the opportunity to ask questions regarding college and programs of interest. This visit can be tailored to the needs of the students.
Health Careers Exploration Program
SWI-AHEC hosts an annual summer Health Careers Exploration Program. This 3-day, non-residential experience allows regional high school students broad exposure to health careers through engaging activities and field trips. In addition, SWI-AHEC supports health career camps for middle & high school students. These programs are hosted by partners throughout the region.
