AnnMichael Siewert is an Evansville native who attended Signature School. She graduated from Western Kentucky University in 2023 with a degree in psychology.
She is currently studying recreational therapy at Indiana University and plans to graduate with a master's degree in Spring 2025.
She says her experience battling and surviving cancer led her to a career in healthcare. "I was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia when I was 8 years old. I was treated at Kosair Hospital (now Norton Children's) in Louisville, Kentucky," she says. "It took me some time to come to my career goals because I've always wanted to do something big and make a difference. After changing career ideas three times in college, I landed on recreational therapy because when I reflected on my cancer experience, I realized my memories were mostly good ones with the art and music therapist."
The first AHEC experience she chose to attend was the psychology didactic lecture at Easterseals Rehabilitation Center in Evansville.
"AHEC has allowed me to think of my career in different ways and apply what I've been learning for my degree to other areas within healthcare, giving a sense of connection with other disciplines," she says.
