Dermatology Workshop - February 18, 2025
Healthcare providers such as nurses, nurse practitioners and physician associates need ongoing professional development/continuing education related to dermatologic issues frequently seen in the clinical setting. This is needed as many patients first present dermatologic issues, such as rashes, infections, or skin lesions, to their primary care providers.
Understanding dermatologic issues allows providers to provide comprehensive care as skin conditions can be related to systemic diseases (e.g., lupus, diabetes), so recognizing skin manifestations can lead to the diagnosis and management of underlying conditions. Early detection, treatment, and patient education of skin conditions, including skin cancers, can significantly improve patient outcomes. Providers trained in dermatology can identify concerning lesions and refer patients to specialists when necessary.
Overall, recognizing and managing dermatologic conditions effectively prepares providers with the knowledge and skills necessary to provide high-quality care to their patients.
