Kinesiology - Personal Training Concentration Overview

The Kinesiology program at USI equips you for entry-level positions in fitness, physical education, and health and wellness. The Personal Training Concentration enhances this with specialized training methods for individuals and groups, focusing on program design for diverse populations and providing hands-on experience with real clients to develop and evaluate personalized training plans.

The Kinesiology Personal Training curriculum adheres to American College of Sports Medicine standards. It combines scientific principles with practical skills in fitness assessment, exercise instruction, and program administration, preparing you for both the workforce and graduate studies.Additionally, the Kinesiology program at USI is accredited by the Committee on Accreditation for the Exercise Sciences (CoAES), which allows students graduating from USI to sit for the American College of Sports Medicine Exercise Physiologist certification.

The Kinesiology major prepares students for entry-level positions in the following areas: fitness clubs, YMCAs, recreation centers, corporate fitness and wellness centers, health departments, senior centers, and hospital fitness and wellness centers. Examples of kinesiology positions include, but are not limited to personal trainers, group exercise instructors, community wellness program managers, worksite fitness or wellness center managers, health coaches, and private or commercial fitness club general managers or consultants. It is also designed to prepare students to test for the American College of Sports Medicine’s Certified Personal Trainer and Aerobics and Fitness Association of America’s Primary Group Exercise Instructor Certification.
