Kinesiology - Physical Education Teaching Concentration Overview

USI's Kinesiology program equips you for entry-level roles in fitness and health, with a Personal Training Concentration that emphasizes training methods for diverse populations. You’ll gain hands-on experience with real clients while also earning a P-12 Licensure minor, qualifying you to teach physical education from grades P-12.

The Kinesiology and Sport Department offers cutting-edge facilities, including specialized labs for human performance and instructional techniques. Faculty members are dedicated to your success, providing a curriculum aligned with American College of Sports Medicine standards that combines theory and practical application. Concentrations include nutrition, personal training, fitness management, senior fitness, and physical education teaching, preparing you for immediate employment and further education.

The Kinesiology major prepares students for entry-level positions in the following areas: fitness clubs, YMCAs, recreation centers, corporate fitness and wellness centers, health departments, senior centers, and hospital fitness and wellness centers. Examples of kinesiology positions include, but are not limited to personal trainers, group exercise instructors, community wellness program managers, worksite fitness or wellness center managers, health coaches, and private or commercial fitness club general managers or consultants. It is also designed to prepare students to test for the American College of Sports Medicine’s Certified Personal Trainer and Aerobics and Fitness Association of America’s Primary Group Exercise Instructor Certification.
