Scholarships, grants, loans and work-study programs are available to help make education affordable. Scholarships and awards given to students majoring in mathematics and mathematics teaching include:

Criteria: Award to a female junior math education major with a 3.0 GPA to be used during her senior year. Not renewable. May not be awarded to a graduating senior.

Criteria: Math major. May not be awarded to a graduating senior. Recipient must be enrolled during the upcoming academic year in order to receive this scholarship. One year scholarship, but students may reapply. To apply for this scholarship, submit an application form to the Mathematics department by the third Friday in January of the year in which the scholarship is to be awarded. If additional information is needed, applicants will be contacted by the selection committee.
  1. Current USI student majoring in mathematics
  2. Enrollment status
    • Enrolled as a full-time student in the previous fall and spring semesters
    • Must successfully complete 12 credit hours each semester the scholarship is received
    • Must enroll in at least one math class satisfying a requirement of the major each semester the scholarship is received
  3. Academic requirements
    • Current USI students must be in good standing with the University
  4. Selection decisions made by a committee appointed by the Chair of the Department of Mathematical Sciences
  5. The applicant may receive other forms of academic assistance without jeopardizing his/her eligibility as long as maximum financial aid does not exceed cost of board, room, tuition and books

This scholarship is a one-year scholarship; however, a student may reapply for a second or third year.

Criteria: An annual half-tuition scholarship for a math major enrolled as full-time student in the previous fall and spring semesters. Must successfully complete 15 hours each semester scholarship is received. Must be enrolled in at least one math class satisfying a requirement of the major each semester the scholarship is received. Applicants must submit an essay no longer than one page, "Mathematics and My Future," to the Mathematics department. Not automatically renewable, but student may reapply for a second or third year. May not be awarded to a graduating senior. This scholarship will provide funds to cover half the cost of tuition (at the in-state tuition rate) for all credit hours enrolled by the student during the fall and spring semesters. To apply for this scholarship, submit an application form to the chair of the Mathematics department no later than the third Friday in January of the year in which the scholarship is to be awarded. This one-year scholarship is designed to be used for the fall and spring semesters; however, if there are extenuating circumstances, the Chair of the Department of Mathematical Sciences may allow use of the scholarship during the summer terms. Pending approval of the Chair of the Department of Mathematical Sciences, scholarship support may continue during semesters when students are engaged in internships or other experiential learning opportunities.

Criteria: Number of awards varies. A renewable half-tuition scholarship for a math major entering USI with high school minimum 3.3 GPA and SAT math score minimum 600 or 26 on the math ACT score and applied for admission by March 1. A minimum of 30 credit hours must be completed each year scholarship is received. Automatically renewable with 3.0 GPA through 62 hours and minimum 3.3 thereafter. Must be enrolled in at least one math class each fall and spring semester and demonstrate ability to complete bachelor's degree in 4.5 years. May receive other financial aid as long as maximum financial aid does not exceed cost of tuition, room/board, fees and books. May not be awarded to a graduating senior. This scholarship will provide funds to cover half the cost of tuition (at the in-state tuition rate) for all credit hours enrolled by the student during the fall, spring or summer term.   3. Enrollment status
    • Majoring in mathematics or mathematics teaching
    • Enrolling as a full-time student
      • Must successfully complete at least 30 credit hours each year the scholarship is received
      • Must be enrolled in a least one math class satisfying a requirement of the major after the first semester (A student may take Math 115 or Math 118 the first semester of his or her freshman year; math teaching majors are exempt from taking a math course during the student teaching semester.)
      • Award may be used during the fall, spring or summer term; there is no math requirement for the summer term.
  4. Academic requirements
    • Have a minimum high school gpa of 3.3 out of a possible 4.0
    • Have a minimum of either a 600 on the Math SAT or a 26 on the Math ACT
    • Apply for admission to USI by March 1
  5. Selection decisions
    • Made by a committee appointed by the Chair of the Department of Mathematical Sciences
    • Selection based on merit
  6. Renewable requirements
    • Maintain a minimum USI gpa of 3.0 through two years of coursework at USI and a minimum 3.3 thereafter
    • Maintain a minimum 2.75 gpa in all math classes fulfilling the major
    • Demonstrate the ability to successfully complete a bachelor's degree in mathematics within 4 1/2 years
  7. The applicant may receive other forms of academic assistance without jeopardizing his/her eligibility as long as maximum financial aid does not exceed cost of board, room, tuition, fees and books.
  8. This scholarship will provide funds to cover half the cost of tuition (at the in-state tuition rate) for all credit hours enrolled by the student during the fall, spring or summer term. Pending approval of the Chair of the Department of Mathematical Sciences, scholarship support may continue during semesters when students are engaged in internships or other experiential learning opportunities.
  9. This half-tuition scholarship is automatically renewed each year all requirements are met for up to four years (maximum of eight semesters and four summer terms).

Criteria: May not be awarded to a graduating senior. Recipient must be enrolled during the upcoming academic year in order to receive this scholarship. Not automatically renewable, but may be re-awarded.

Criteria: Bosse High School senior with minimum 3.0 GPA enrolled at USI planning to enter math education, education, math related career or other. Automatically renewable with minimum 3.0 GPA. Award to high school senior and presented at Bosse. Recipient is recognized at the following Honors Week convocation. May not be awarded to a graduating senior. Recipient must be enrolled during the upcoming academic year in order to receive this scholarship.
