Progression into Clinical/Fieldwork/Residency/Internships

To proceed in the program, all academic requirements must be met. Students who have pending cases involving academic integrity or other programmatic/college policies may be prohibited from proceeding into clinical, fieldwork, residency, and/or internship components of a course for protection of the University, patient, clinical site, or student. Students will have access to confidential medical/personal client and family information, and to sensitive agency information as part of the clinical, fieldwork, residency, and/or internship learning experience. It is of utmost importance that client/agency confidentiality is observed. Information concerning a client/family or agency is not to be discussed after leaving the clinical, fieldwork, residency, and/or internship unit, agency, or classroom. Violation of this policy may result in students being removed from the clinical, fieldwork, residency, and/or internship site; clinical, fieldwork, residency, and/or internship failure; and/or dismissal from the student’s USI program.

It is the College policy that all incidents occurring in the clinical, fieldwork, residency, and/or internship experience be reported for the purpose of generating and maintaining a record of such incidents. This information is considered confidential and will only be retained as necessary to meet program requirements. Information should be reported to clinical, fieldwork, residency, and/or internship supervising faculty the same day the incident occurs. Students may be prohibited from returning to clinical, fieldwork, residency, and/or internship based on the severity of the incident.

Overview of Clinical/Fieldwork Expectations

All College of Nursing and Health Professions students involved in clinical, fieldwork, and/or internship experiences are required to provide documentation of required immunizations, criminal background check, and drug screening. The CNHP uses CastleBranch as a secure online system for student submission of documentation and faculty monitoring of results.

Each CNHP academic program has specific guidelines as to the required immunizations, criminal background check, and drug screening. These guidelines are found in the student handbook for that program. Each student should verify the expectations of the program of interest. Failure to comply with the CNHP program expectations may jeopardize continuation in the program.
