ABET Engineering Accreditation CommissionThe Bachelor of Science in Engineering (BSE) at the Pott College of Science, Engineering, and Education, the flagship baccalaureate degree in engineering, requires strong problem-solving skills and mathematical competence and allows you to focus on one of five emphasis areas: mechatronics, mechanical, civil, industrial and manufacturing, or electrical and computer engineering. Bachelor of Science in Engineering graduates are prepared for a diverse array of engineering career paths and opportunities. The Bachelor of Science in Engineering (BSE) program is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, https://abet.org, under the commission’s General Criteria with no applicable program criteria.

The Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering (BSCE) program builds upon the engineering core curriculum with courses in structural, water resources, environmental, construction materials, transportation and surveying, construction estimating and management, and geotechnical engineering. The Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering (BSCE) program is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, https://abet.org, under the commission’s General Criteria and Program Criteria for Civil and Similarly Named Engineering Programs.

As part of the Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) program at USI, you'll explore circuits, microprocessors, embedded systems, signal processing, power, and control through a mix of lecture and lab components, with numerous opportunities for hands-on projects both inside and outside of class. The Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) program is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, https://abet.org, under the commission’s General Criteria and Program Criteria for Electrical, Computer, Communications, Telecommunication(s) and Similarly Named Engineering Programs.

The Bachelor of Science in Manufacturing Engineering (BSMFE) includes classes in manufacturing, mechanics, design, and industrial processes, along with coursework in machine design, manufacturing processes, finite element analysis, and facility and material handling layout. The Bachelor of Science in Manufacturing Engineering (BSMFE) program is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, https://abet.org, under the commission’s General Criteria and Program Criteria for Manufacturing and Similarly Named Engineering Programs.

The Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) encompasses the broadest range of engineering disciplines, with students learning through coursework in heat transfer, material science, dynamics of machinery and modeling dynamic systems. The Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) program is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, https://abet.org, under the commission’s General Criteria and Program Criteria for Mechanical and Similarly Named Engineering Programs.


Technology Degree Program

The Bachelor of Science in Manufacturing Engineering Technology offers hands-on training in materials, systems and process design, quality control, sustainability, machining, manufacturing, product development, and design, while developing essential teamwork, critical thinking, and communication skills. Students also gain analytic skills and practical experience in electrical, mechanical, industrial, and manufacturing engineering technologies, as well as computer-aided design and modeling.

Opportunities

Career outlook for the engineering student.

The journey from student to professional practitioner can follow many paths. The College's graduates find employment in industries of all kinds. 

An ABET-accredited engineering degree from USI, allows a student to sit for the Fundamentals of Engineering (PE) exam. Depending on the state where you apply for licensure, you may need to work under a licensed engineer for a qualifying period (four years in Indiana) before you take the PE exam. The university has not determined if students from other states need to meet additional requirements for employment in those states.

There are plenty of opportunities at USI to get hands-on experience outside the classroom. I've used what I learned to help with a robotics competition that USI sponsors for middle schools. Making the extra effort to get involved has helped me through the difficult semesters. And the engineering faculty is great—some of my favorite people are USI professors!
