Essence of Excellence call for proposals

July 22, 2024

The USI Multicultural Center (MCC) is excited to invite speakers to present at the 14th annual Essence of Excellence Summit at 3 p.m. Friday, September 27 in Carter Hall D in UC West.

This event strives to bring students the information and knowledge to discover more about themselves and develop the skills to become well-rounded. The summit is looking for a variety of presenters to enrich and impart their time and skills to the students.

The summit needs presenters for the following areas:

Network Session (3-3:45 p.m.):

This session's goal is to instruct students in "The Art of Networking," a desired and useful skill to teach students for their future professional endeavors. The MCC is open to presenters who are instructors or guides to give instructional coaching/practice to students on improving their ability in this area.

Workshop Session (5-7 p.m.):

The workshop sessions for this event offer another opportunity to direct and enlighten attendees on multiple topics geared toward growth and learning. Workshops are meant to be highly interactive—though lecture is traditionally a part of the process, application and practice are engaging opportunities that leave a lasting impact on student attendees. To be a presenter, you may submit a topic and content. If you only have content for submission, a topic will be developed based off your content submission.

Workshop presenters will be asked to present starting at 4:30 p.m. and the time allotted for each workshop is 40 minutes (a 30- to 35-minute presentation to allow for a 5-minute transition period). Room set-ups will vary upon request. A room could have open seating with only chairs, tables arranged to compliment the speaker or a combination of the two.

Panel Discussion (7-7:30 p.m.):

The culmination of the evening will be a panel discussion starting at 7 p.m. This year's topic will be "What's the Biggest Challenge Ahead?" and will focus on reflection and imparting final words of wisdom to the students for their personal and professional journey ahead.

The session will conclude in Carter Hall D with all participants present for a conversation with the participant/audience.

Presenters are invited to attend the entire event or individual sessions that interest you.

Please submit your topics/content by August 7. If you have any questions about the event or would like more information, please reach out to Jada Hogg, Interim Executive Director of the Multicultural Center, at 812-228-5000 or email jhogg@usi.edu.
