Annual Pharmacology Update for Healthcare Professionals workshop returns in person, virtual September 23

The University of Southern Indiana Center for Health Professions Lifelong Learning is hosting the annual Pharmacology Update for Healthcare Professionals, an all-day workshop on Friday, September 23, 2022, in the University Center on the USI campus. For those not able to attend in person, there is an option to attend virtually. 

Back by popular demand is keynote speaker Dr. Wendy L. Wright, an adult and family nurse practitioner and owner of two nurse practitioner-owned and operated clinics in New Hampshire. Her family practices have won numerous awards, including Top Providers in New Hampshire 2020, Top 20 Fastest Growing Family Business and Top 20 Women-Owned Business in New Hampshire. In addition, she is the Owner of Partners in Healthcare Education, a medical education company.  

"This conference focuses on evidence-based clinical pharmacology needs of the patient," says Anita Hagan, Interim Director for the Center for Health Professions Lifelong Learning. "Dr. Wright will provide information concerning drug-to-drug interactions for safe prescribing. There will also be presentations on the needs of primary care patients afflicted with chronic conditions such as diabetes, depression/anxiety and pain." 

The conference will conclude with a pediatric psychopharmacology presentation provided by Shannon Jones, MD, a child psychiatrist with Southwestern Behavioral Healthcare in Evansville. 

Nurses, advanced practice registered nurses, pharmacists, physicians, physician assistants, students enrolled in health professional education programs, and other health professionals interested in treatment management and pharmacotherapeutic considerations are encouraged to attend.

Continuing Education Information: 
In support of improving patient care, the University of Southern Indiana Center for Health Professions Lifelong Learning is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), the American Psychological Association (APA), and the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program to provide continuing education for the healthcare team. 

Successful completion of this activity provides seven contact hours for nursing continuing professional development with sevenhours specific to pharmacotherapeutics, seven contact hours for knowledge-based CPE activity for pharmacists, 7.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ for physicians, seven contact hours in continuing education for social workers and psychologists.  Two of the seven hours relate specifically to opioid abuse and prescribing. 

Learners should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
