Drew ’04 and Carrie ’06 Rice were just welcoming their first child into the world when they made the decision to help their alma mater in a big way.
The Rices wanted to support the University of Southern Indiana through charitable gifts, but at the time the level of gift they wanted to make didn’t match the budget. Drew and Carrie knew it was possible to ensure their gift would come to fruition and made USI Foundation a beneficiary of a life insurance policy.
The Rices view planned giving as the easiest form of giving. It allows individuals to dream about their philanthropic impact and immediately act on it. Carrie and Drew value their USI education and its affordability. Multiple family members are graduates of the University and Carrie’s grandparents provided leadership to USI athletics in its formative years. Her grandfather Marvin was a founder of the USI Varsity Club. Carrie stated, “We are a part of influencing the lives of generations to come.”
Drew said, “USI is a great piece of our community; it’s growing; it’s placing graduates in roles within our
community; it needs support from alumni. Our gift will allow continued growth and change.”
