The Studio Art minor immerses you in the creation and understanding of art. You will focus on critical thinking skills, crafting tangible objects (both functional and non-functional), and concrete skills as visual communicators. Studying studio art at USI gives you the opportunity to fulfill your creative potential alongside other like-minded creatives. You will have the flexibility to focus on a certain medium or study multiple ones that interest you. The studio art program will strengthen your competence of both traditional and contemporary art with an academically rich foundation of art theory and art history.
Additional credit hours could indicate a major, second minor, or certificate. A minimum of 120 credit hours is required to graduate.
An undergraduate student should initiate a Change of Academic Program if they wish to add or remove a minor.
The student obtains a Change of Academic Program form from the Registrar's Office or the department of the new major/minor, secures the signature of the department chair/director (or dean) of any major/minor to be added, and returns the form to the Registrar's Office for processing.
A student must submit the completed form by the Thursday before priority registration if the change is to be made within the current semester. Unless granted a waiver by the department of the new major, the student must meet all current program requirements for graduation.
Knowledge and experience gained through the studio art program will prepare you for your career or graduate studies. The studio minor is a great complement for any major including psychology, anthropology, business, advanced manufacturing, education, engineering, theatre arts, health professions or nursing.
