Pre-Medical Sciences Certificate Overview

The USI Pre-Medical Sciences Certificate (PMSC) is a guided curriculum designed by Pott College Pre-Professional advisors to assist students in preparing for entrance exams and meeting the prerequisites for professional schools such as medical, dental, optometry, physician assistant, and physical therapy programs.

The PMSC program is available to all students of any major as well as post-baccalaureate and non-degree seeking students. Students that pursue the PMSC must fulfill the 5-8 hours of electives separate from the electives used to satisfy their major requirements. For example, a biology cannot use both BIOL375 to satisfy both the biology major electives and the PMSC directed electives. The PMSC is not intended to aid pre-allied health students in successful application to allied health programs (e.g. nursing, dental hygiene/assisting, respiratory/occupational therapy, etc.).

You can add the Pre-Medical Sciences Certificate by contacting the registrar's office and filling out the appropriate form:

  • For Degree-Seeking students (you have already declared a major):
    • You need to complete the Change of Academic Program form. Available in the Biology Office or from the Registrar.
    • On the form you should enter "Pre-Medical Sciences Certificate" in the "Add Major" section.
    • Submit the form to the Biology Office.
  • For Non-Degree Seeking students (you are taking classes, but have not declared a major or degree):
    • By adding the Pre-Medical Sciences Certificate, you will now be declaring a program at USI.
    • You need to complete the Change of Status form. This is available from the Registrar.
    • Change of your status to a Degree-Seeking student will require that you submit High School and College transcripts. Contact the Registrar for more information.
    • Submit to the PMSC Program Director for a signature, and then submit the form to the Registrar’s Office.

To apply to the University of Southern Indiana (USI) for undergraduate enrollment:

  • Complete the online application for admission
  • Pay the $40 application fee
  • Submit official transcripts from all high schools and colleges you've attended

Once USI has processed your application, transcript(s) and scores (if needed), a decision will be made by Undergraduate Admissions and you will receive a notification.
