The Engineering degree at USI allows for a well-rounded engineering education. The mechatronics emphasis is a growing field that intersects mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, and their connections within complex systems, like robotics and automation. An increasing number of engineering applications require a physical mechanical system, electromechanical devices for measurements and actuation, and an electrical system for decision making. Mechatronics is an area in which these aspects are brought together. It consists of the areas of automation, control, and robotics.Â
The BSE with mechatronics emphasis at USI provides you with a basis of fundamental mechanical and electrical courses, with the ability to focus on specific areas through choice of technical electives. Many courses you'll take have lab components, with a focus on smaller class size for more faculty-student engagement. You will also have opportunities to become engaged in student groups and projects, both in and outside of class.
To apply to the University of Southern Indiana (USI) for undergraduate enrollment:
Once USI has processed your application, transcript(s) and scores (if needed), a decision will be made by Undergraduate Admissions and you will receive a notification.
Upon acceptance to USI, you'll receive detailed information about next steps, including orientation, registration and housing.
Upon completion of the degree, students are typically placed in the control, automation, electrical and mechanical fields. Most students take and pass the Fundamentals of Engineering exam upon graduation, the first step towards professional engineer licensing.

Requirements for licensure and certification vary by profession and by state. USI has reviewed the educational requirements for each state and licensing agency to determine if the academic program here at USI meets the educational requirements to be eligible for licensure/certification in each state or not. Please note that some states may have additional requirements for licensure, such as residency requirements, additional non-academic certifications, etc. that USI cannot determine. We encourage you to check with your state's licensing agency for all requirements needed to obtain licensure.
