Grow Southwestern Indiana Teacher Manufacturing Bootcamp hosts local educators

July 1, 2024

The University of Southern Indiana Outreach and Engagement’s Corporate Partnership and Customized Training and the USI Pott College of Science, Engineering, and Education participated in the Annual Grow SW IN Teacher Manufacturing Bootcamp on June 8. This two-week event allows educators and counselors to visit local manufacturing businesses and campuses to learn about the variety of careers in manufacturing and income potential.

“Each year, Outreach and Engagement hosts the Grow Southwest Indiana Teacher Manufacturing Bootcamp participants to showcase our engineering programs and labs, our STEM equipment and resources that teachers can borrow for their schools, and we finish the day with a tour of our state-of-the-art Applied Engineering Center. At the end of their two-week boot camp experience, teachers share their 'aha' moments and how they will incorporate STEM learnings into their respective curriculum to benefit their students. The two-week boot camp is a great annual event to expose local educators to the many resources USI has to offer to future students and the type of careers our local manufacturers can offer as well,” said Paula Nurrenbern, Director of Corporate Partnerships.

Participants toured the Romain College of Business labs and classrooms and the Applied Engineering Center and labs where they attended a presentation. The Southwest Indiana STEM Resource Center also presented information to the educators on the resources available for local schools to borrow for their classrooms. This opportunity increases awareness of STEM applications in the manufacturing field so that educators in Indiana can assist students with educational paths after high school.
