Lynn prepares for trip to Super Bowl LVII
January 23, 2023
Niki Lynn, Senior Administrative Assistant for the USI Occupational Therapy program, got the thrill of her life January 16 when she opened a Twitter notification that said she had won two free tickets to attend Super Bowl LVII in Glendale, Arizona, on February 12.
It all started four days earlier when Lynn responded to a tweet from Jim Irsay, owner of the Indianapolis Colts, which said he would give a “surprise prize” to the person with the best answer (in his opinion) to the question, “What is the most significant game in NFL history?” Lynn’s answer was the 1958 NFL Championship Game between the Baltimore Colts and the New York Giants that was decided in sudden death overtime. In response, Irsay tweeted that Lynn would receive the ultimate prize: free Super Bowl tickets.
“I had to read it twice. I was brought to tears,” said Lynn. “I have always said the Super Bowl was on my bucket list, but I never thought it would be this soon. I was thinking more of a destination after retirement, many years from now.”
Lynn first started working at USI in 2019 as a Distribution Services Assistant. In January 2020, she transferred to the College of Nursing and Health Professions to work in the Occupational Therapy program. Her son, Nate Elder, is currently a business administration student studying marketing/management. He plans to graduate in December 2023.
She has been an avid Colts fan since the late 1990s when Peyton Manning was on the team. “I loved watching Peyton at Tennessee,” says Lynn. “When he showed up in Indianapolis, it made it easy to cheer for them.”
She and her mother, Terri Carl, have been season ticket holders since 2019. “We received our season ticket box about a week before Andrew Luck retired,” she said. “We try not to miss a game if we can help it if they are in Indy. Our seats are pretty amazing. This season, we even went to Vegas to see them play the Raiders!”
News of Lynn’s good fortune has traveled fast. So far, she has been contacted by three local TV stations and two radio stations for interviews.
Lynn has decided to take her mom to the Super Bowl, but they will not be wearing the colors of the teams playing this year. These two tried-and-true Colts fans will be wearing their usual blue and white apparel, which is only fitting, considering who gave them the tickets!
