USI faculty to present on eclipses ahead of Solarpalooza

Dr. Kent Scheller, Professor of Physics, will present Eclipses and Humans: Science, Shock and Awe ahead of the University of Southern Indiana’s Solarpalooza event, happening Sunday and Monday, April 7-8 on campus.
The presentation explores how eclipses happen, types of eclipses and the necessary safety measures needed to view an eclipse. It then dives into how eclipses have affected humans over the millennia with examples in history, war, religion, literature, film and the animal kingdom.
Take advantage of multiple opportunities to view this presentation before the show-stopping solar event on April 8:
- 3 p.m. Saturday, March 9: New Harmony Gallery of Contemporary Art
- 2 p.m. Sunday, March 10: Evansville/Vanderburgh Public Library Central
- 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 12: Fort Branch Public Library
- 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 27: Owensville Carnegie Public Library
USI will host Solarpalooza Sunday and Monday, April 7-8, beginning with a talk by trailblazing electrical engineer and retired NASA astronaut Joan Higginbotham, at 7 p.m. Sunday, April 7 in the Screaming Eagles Arena, followed by a full day of experiential learning and engagement on Monday, April 8, the day of the eclipse.
