Shelton to serve as first USI Director of Athletic Marketing and Fan Engagement

Jacob Shelton ’17, M’19 has accepted the position of Director of Athletic Marketing and Fan Engagement at the University of Southern Indiana. The announcement was made on Thursday, November 10 by Kindra Strupp, Vice President for Marketing and Communications, and Jon Mark Hall, Athletic Director, and is effective Monday, November 14, 2022. 

As the Director of Athletic Marketing and Fan Engagement, Shelton will provide strong vision and be responsible for planning, development, and implementation of athletic marketing strategies, branding initiatives, marketing communications, community activities and game experience. In this role, he will seek to enhance the profile of USI Athletics within the University and externally. 

Shelton served over two years at the University of Evansville (UE) where he was most recently the Assistant Athletic Director (AD) of Marketing and Fan Engagement. In this role, he led all athletics marketing and promotional efforts attendance, revenue, fan and student engagement and enhanced the overall game day experience for UE Athletics. Prior to his Assistant AD of Marketing and Fan Engagement role, Shelton served as Director of Ticketing and Game Operations at UE.  

Before UE, Shelton served as an Account Executive for the Evansville Thunderbolts Hockey Team where he was responsible for making touchpoints with current season and potential new ticket holders. He also oversaw the Prides Den Kid’s Club in this role.  

Shelton holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in sport management, both from USI.
