The Shield, the University of Southern Indiana's student-run newspaper, was awarded several honors by the Indiana Collegiate Press Association (ICPA) as part of its 2022 Spring Contest.
Overall publication awards were determined by the results of individual award winners from each participating organization. As part of the 2022 competition, The Shield earned two individual student awards and three staff awards.
USI students receiving awards as part of the 2022 ICPA Spring Contest include:

- Second Place - Feature Page Design (DII Newspaper [defined by the ICPA as non-daily collegiate newspapers in Indiana with enrollment exceeding 3,001 students] Award)
Josh Meredith
- Third Place - Photo Slideshow (Online [defined by the ICPA as awards for content that ran online, regardless of institution size] Award)
