New Harmony Writer's Residency to host two poetry readings

The New Harmony Writer's Residency will host two poetry reading events featuring 2017 New Harmony Writer-in-Residence Kaveh Akbar on Thursday, June 15 in New Harmony. Both events will be free and open to the public.

Akbar will host "Mining the Poetic Unconscious", a public reading and workshop, at 1 p.m. at the Working Men's Institute Museum & Library. Akbar will be joined by Paige Lewis for a joint reading at 6:30 p.m. at Sara's Harmony Way.

Akbar's poems appeared recently or will appear soon in The New Yorker, Tin House, Ploughshares, Georgia Review, PBS NewsHour, American Poetry Review, Narrative, AGNI, New England Review, Prairie Schooner, Virginia Quarterly Review, Poetry International, Guernica, Boston Review and elsewhere. His debut full-length collection, Calling a Wolf a Wolf, will be published by Alice James Books in the fall of 2017 and his chapbook, Portrait of the Alcoholic, is available through Sibling Rivalry Press.

Lewis is the 2016 recipient of The Florida Review Editors' Award in Poetry and is the author of the upcoming chapbook Reasons to Wake You, to be published by Tupelo Press. Her poems are forthcoming in American Poetry Review, Ploughshares, The Massachusetts Review, The Georgia Review, The Iowa Review and elsewhere. Lewis currently serves as assistant editor at Divedapper and as assistant poetry editor of The Southeast Review. She lives and teaches in Tallahassee, Florida.
