USI hosting LEGO® robotics competition

November 14, 2016

The University of Southern Indiana's Pott College of Science, Engineering, and Education, along with Southwest Indiana STEM Resource Center (SwiSTEM) will host the USI FIRST® LEGO® League Qualifying Tournament Saturday, November 19 in Carter Hall located in the University Center East.

Teams will be judged in a variety of categories beginning at 9:30 a.m. Teams will then compete head-to-head in a robot game beginning at 1p.m. in Carter Hall.

FIRST LEGO League is a robotics program that is designed to excite children about technology and science while providing them with valuable life and employment skills. This year 11 teams from the surrounding area will compete in the tournament to bring home the win.

The tournament theme this year is Animal Allies. Once the competition has started, teams will be judged based on four criteria: LEGO League Core Values, Robot Design, Project Review and the Robot Game. Teams will be asked to think of people and animals as allies in the quest to make life better for everyone, so their mission, in the construction of their robot, is to make human interaction with animals better for all of us using LEGO MINDSTORMS® robot sets to score points and create innovative solutions to a problem.
