USI Theatre presents a student directed production of Dog Sees God: Confessions of a Teenage Blockhead
March 4, 2016
University of Southern Indiana Theatre will follow up the closing of its co-presented Arcadia with a production of Dog Sees God: Confessions of a Teenage Blockhead by Bert V. Royal March 17-19 directed by USI Theatre student Nolan Spinks.
The show opens with the character CB writing a letter to God about his dog's death from rabies and his questioning the existence of an afterlife. His best friend is too burnt out to provide any coherent speculation; his sister has gone Goth; his ex-girlfriend has recently been institutionalized; and his other friends are too inebriated to give him any sort of solace. But a chance meeting with an artistic kid, the target of this group's bullying, offers CB peace of mind and sets in motion a friendship that will push teen angst to the very limits. Drug use, suicide, eating disorders, teen violence, rebellion and sexual identity collide and careen toward an ending that's both haunting and hopeful.
Spinks will be joined by a design team of fellow USI students Chynna Hall as costume designer; AJ Mason as lighting designer; Fred Kelley as sound designer; Paije Pokrzywa as stage manager; and USI faculty member Paul Weimer as scenic designer.
Dog Sees God's cast will be portrayed by USI students Collin Culiver, Megan Hoffman, Parker Hart, Tamarea Kramer, Hannah Jones, D'Angelo Himes and Christy Thompson, and Evansville community member and USI alumnus Kevin Arnold.
Admission is free on a first come, first served basis. All performances will take place in the lower level of the College of Liberal Arts in the Helen Mallette Studio Theatre (LA 0105). The performances will be held March 17-19, with all showings starting at 7:30 p.m.
