Future/Past/Presence: The 2025 New Harmony
Contemporary Print Exchange
April 19 - May 10, 2025
Co-organized by NHGCA Founding Director, John P. Begley and
USI Professor Brett Anderson
April 19 - May 10, 2025
New Harmony Gallery of Contemporary Art, University of Southern Indiana is proud to present the exhibition, Future / Past / Presence: The 2025 New Harmony Contemporary Print Exchange. Featuring more than 30 contemporary artists from over 8 states, works on view celebrate printmaking as a medium while pointing to the medium as intrinsic to the gallery’s founding 50 years ago under the directorship of printmaker John P. Begley (NHGCA Director from 1975-83.) Early on, Begley invited artists working in printmaking to create work collaboratively onsite, establishing the gallery as a vibrant space for this medium during the mid-1970s. Over the decades, the gallery has continued to support the media by regularly showcasing printworks from artists at the University of Southern Indiana and across the region.
Future / Past / Presence is a continuation of multiple portfolio exchanges that the gallery has hosted throughout its long history. The invitational supports three broad goals of the gallery: by acting as a vehicle to bring contemporary art from across the nation to a rural region of the United States, highlighting the communal ideology of the city’s history by encouraging printmaking and the portfolio exchange format, and to continue support for the New Harmony Gallery of Contemporary art through creative expression and fiscal support.
