55th Annual Juried Student Art Show

The University of Southern Indiana’s Annual Juried Student Art Exhibition is a presentation of selected student artworks from the past academic year, held at the McCutchan Art Center / Pace Galleries in the lower level of the Liberal Arts Center. The works are chosen by an expert in the field of art, invited by the Art and Design faculty for their expertise and understanding of undergraduate art works.
This independent juror is brought in to assure an objective selection of artworks and awards, and to provide an educational experience for students in preparation for professional careers in art. Our juror this year is Cintia Segovia Figueroa. This year’s exhibition features 101 artworks chosen by the juror from 218 entries. The exhibitions includes sixty-nine artists.
On Wednesday, November 13 at 3:30 p.m. in Kleymeyer Hall (LA 0101) our juror, Cintia Segovia Figueroa, will give a lecture about their design work and creative process as well as speaking to the process of selecting artworks for this exhibition.
A reception for the exhibition will be held on Sunday, November 17 beginning at 1 p.m. This includes an awards ceremony being held in the gallery starting at 2 p.m. Participating artists and their friends and family are encouraged to attend. Please visit the galleries’ website for more details.
This exhibition will be displayed in the galleries from November 4 through December 06. The MAC/PACE, located in the lower level of the Liberal Arts Center, is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and open on Sundays from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

About the juror
Cintia Segovia Figueroa was born and raised in Mexico City, where she worked in the entertainment industry. Learning English in the U.S. as an adult gave her a unique perspective on the nuances of the language. Her photography and socially engaged approach explore themes of immigration, displacement, and bilingualism. Segovia Figueroa earned an M.A. at California State University, Northridge and an MFA at CSU, Long Beach. The Museum of Latin American Art and the National Immigration Law Center have collected her work, and private galleries and museums worldwide have exhibited it, including the Shanghai University, Spartanburg Art Museum, the Torrance Art Museum, and the Santa Cruz Museum of Art and History. Her work has also been shown at the Mexican Consulate, Shanghai University, and the Autonomous University of Mexico, among many other venues. Segovia Figueroa teaches photography and new media at Murray State University in Kentucky.
