The Firefly Festival returns to New Harmony, Indiana, on Friday, June 7 and Saturday, June 8, 2024! This fun community event celebrates both the magic of fireflies and the naturalist, Thomas Say, who first described the Say's Firefly in New Harmony in 1826. As one of the many exciting activities planned for the Firefly Festival this year, Historic New Harmony is hosting a new art class called Draw Like a Naturalist.

Savannah Hoskinson, a science and nature-based illustrator from Evansville, IN, will be teaching two sessions of her Draw Like a Naturalist class at the Atheneum Visitors Center on Saturday, June 8 at 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. This class is designed for students ages 10-17. Participants will receive a sketchbook and mini drawing kit to use during the class and take home afterwards. In this 2-hour class, students will learn to closely observe and draw from natural history specimens.

Historic New Harmony staff will be present and assisting with the classes that day.

Cost: $15. The price includes the cost of materials (sketchbook and mini drawing kit).

Registration is required and space is limited to 8 students per class, so be sure to sign up soon! Register your child at this link or call the Atheneum Visitors Center at 812-682-4474.

Note that payments are due on arrival on the day of the class. Please plan to arrive 15 minutes before your class time; otherwise, your registration may be released.
