Out-of-State Awards
Students residing outside of Indiana, Illinois and Kentucky can receive the following awards based upon the application for admission. Scholarship criteria are subject to change. Scholarships are evaluated each June, at which time criteria and values are confirmed for students who will begin applying in August.
Out-of-State Merit Scholarship
Award pays the difference between non-resident and Indiana resident tuition plus an additional $2,000. The current value is more than $12,000 annually. To be eligible applicants must:
- Achieve a minimum 3.5/4.0 cumulative high school GPA
- Reside outside of the counties eligible for the Out-of-State Regional Scholarships
- Live on campus for the first year
Out-Of-State Grant
Provides a tuition discount of $9,000 for out-of-state students. To be eligible, applicants must:
- Achieve a cumulative high school GPA in the range of 2.75-3.49/4.0 and live on campus for the first year
- Reside outside of the counties eligible for the Out-of-State Regional Scholarships
- Live on campus for the first year
Continue the Tradition Award
Provides tuition waiver which will net out-of-state tuition down to in-state tuition rates. Non-Indiana residents who are admissible to USI and have a parent (biological or adopted) or grandparent that has earned a Bachelor’s, Masters or Doctorate degree from USI are eligible for this waiver.
Students eligible for the Continue the Tradition Award are also eligible to receive an additional David L. Rice Scholarship ranging from $1,000 to $4,000 based on academic performance.
Scholarships that require an additional application
Foundation Awards
Admitted students can take advantage of AwardSpring, a unified scholarship application that faculty and staff utilize to award Foundation scholarships. This one application serves as the application to all Foundation scholarships for which a student is eligible. Students can click on the AwardSpring icon on MyUSI and begin completing a single application. The software will automatically match potential recipients to scholarships based on the information provided on the application.
Multicultural Leadership Scholarship
The Harolyn Torain Multicultural Leadership Scholarship is a competitive award that provides an annual scholarship of $5,000. Recipients also participate in an Inclusive Excellence Program that incorporates leadership, community service and cultural experiences throughout the academic year. Students who have a 3.0/4.0 cumulative high school GPA and have demonstrated leadership in multicultural school or community activities or organizations are eligible to apply.
USI Art Scholarships
The USI Art Department awards four-year renewable scholarships in amounts ranging from $500-$2,500 to incoming students majoring in art or art education to be used towards tuition. Deadline to apply is TBD.
