Sara Christensen Blair is a Professor and the Chair of the Art and Design Department. In 2002, she earned her bachelor’s degree in fine arts from the School of The Art Institute of Chicago. She finished her MFA in mixed media from the University of North Dakota with an emphasis in fibers, painting and metals in 2004. In 2022, she earned a doctorate in visual arts: aesthetics, art theory and philosophy through the Institute for Doctoral Studies in the Visual Arts. She previously served 13 years at Northern State University in Aberdeen, South Dakota, as a Professor and Chair of Art. She teaches classes in jewelry and metalsmithing, painting and mixed media at USI. As a mixed-media artist, she contends with labor, craft and the roles they play in contemporary discourse and culture. Her interests in craft processes and the everyday are present in her artwork.
