I come from a multi-generational lineage based in Wyoming. I pursued a degree in chemistry at the University of Wyoming, but could not manage high-level calculus and switched over to history. After graduating I married and took a couple years off to decide what I wanted to do with my degree. Following museum, archive, and library work I decided to get a graduate degree and teach. Returning to Wyoming I completed an MA in history followed by a PhD at the University of Kansas. My Phd work focussed on medieval European history, specifically law, gender, and Italy. Using a Fulbright I spent a year in Venice doing research which provided the basis of my dissertation. I began work at USI in 2004 teaching a variety of classes. Following tenure and promotion to Associate Professor, I assumed the chair of the history department. In the fall of 2023 I was asked to serve as Interim Assistant Provost where I currently work to support the university and its students.
