Learn about yourself, the world, and the past while building the essential skills desired by employers: critical thinking, clear communication, and analysis of information! Make your degree unique. Make your resume stand out. A minor in history is the perfect complement to many USI degrees. Over half of the 24 credit hours of the program are composed of topical history courses chosen by the student. Studying history at USI is a distinctive experience as you'll have small class sizes and access to exceptional faculty, programs and resources. In addition to a large repository of unique documents and items in campus archives, there is also a significant collection of communal studies materials and USI hosts an assortment of ancient and medieval manuscripts in the Lawrence Library for use in classes and research projects. You'll find that the nearby historic community of New Harmony serves as both an invaluable source of internship opportunities, and as a living laboratory for historical research.
Additional credit hours could indicate a major, second minor, or certificate. A minimum of 120 credit hours is required to graduate.
An undergraduate student should initiate a Change of Academic Program if they wish to add or remove a minor.
The student obtains a Change of Academic Program form from the Registrar's Office or the department of the new major/minor, secures the signature of the department chair/director (or dean) of any major/minor to be added, and returns the form to the Registrar's Office for processing.
A student must submit the completed form by the Thursday before priority registration if the change is to be made within the current semester. Unless granted a waiver by the department of the new major, the student must meet all current program requirements for graduation.
The exploration of past cultures and world history provides you with the perfect foundation and skill sets easily employed in a variety of settings. From all periods and locations across the globe, this minor will also provide useful preparation for graduate school or law school.
