Unlike traditional Economics, Behavioral Economics adopts a distinct approach to human behavior, integrating insights from psychology, cognitive science, judgment, and economics, along with emotional, cultural, and social factors. This unique perspective employs experimentation through a game-theoretic framework, requiring a new skill set. The minor equips students with a deep understanding of human behavior through the behavioral economics lens, the ability to design successful experiments, quantitative skills for data collection and analysis, and the capacity to implement insights into policies and innovations for improved outcomes.
An undergraduate student should initiate a Change of Academic Program if they wish to add or remove a minor.
The student obtains a Change of Academic Program form from the Registrar's Office or the department of the new major/minor, secures the signature of the department chair/director (or dean) of any major/minor to be added, and returns the form to the Registrar's Office for processing.
A student must submit the completed form by the Thursday before priority registration if the change is to be made within the current semester. Unless granted a waiver by the department of the new major, the student must meet all current program requirements for graduation.
Complementing multiple majors at USI, this minor enhances career prospects across various fields. The Behavioral Economics minor will train students to recognize, research, and recommend policies and innovations in the fields of business, finance, health, law, public policy, urban planning, and sports management based on the unique skillset and fast-growing perspective of human behavior offered by behavioral economics.
