The World Language and Cultures concentration is for traditional students or individuals working in or aspiring to roles within business, healthcare, education, and non-profit organizations—whether you’re a traditional student eager to develop global and cultural competencies or an adult learner looking to expand your professional skill set—this program is designed to help you succeed in diverse and international settings. It also supports those interested in acquiring the educational skills and theory needed to teach English to speakers of other languages, both domestically and abroad.

The BPS Core includes the following three (3) credit hour courses:

  • BCOM 231 - Business Communication  
  • BCOM 331 - Corporate & Managerial Communication OR CMST 318 - Conflict Resolution 
  • POLS 351 - Leadership in Bureaucratic Organizations US
  • PRFS 301 - The Ethics of Global Engagement
  • PRFS 401 - Teams, Diversity, & Leadership
  • PRFS 490 - Professional Studies Internship
  • PRFS 498 - Personal & Professional Development

The remaining 12 hours of World Languages and Cultures (WLC) courses are listed below. 

  • WLC 365 - Introduction to Applied Linguistics
  • WLC 422 - Cultural Awareness Training
  • WLC 423 - Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages / TESOL Certificate

*Some requirements may be substituted with directed electives approved by the BPS Program Advisor.

To apply to the University of Southern Indiana (USI) for undergraduate enrollment:

  • Complete the online application for admission
  • Pay the $40 application fee
  • Submit official transcripts from all high schools and colleges you've attended

Once USI has processed your application, transcript(s) and scores (if needed), a decision will be made by Undergraduate Admissions and you will receive a notification.

Upon acceptance to USI, you'll receive detailed information about next steps, including orientation, registration and housing.
