Squawk the Vote Voter Registration Blitz kicks off September 20

September 13, 2016

Millennials have caught up with the baby boomer generation and could play a massive role in determining who will be the next president of the United States. Collectively, they could be the deciding factor in the direction of the country, not just for the next four years, but deep into the future. With as many as four Supreme Court justices possibly being appointed by the next president, the impact of those choices will last for decades. But, the only way to wield that power and make a powerful impact is to vote.

USI's Squawk the Vote campaign, with a goal of registering 1,000 USI students to vote, will ensure that students have ample opportunities to register to vote, learn about the issues and the election process, as well as how to cast their vote through an absentee ballot. The Squawk the Vote Voter Registration Blitz kicks off on Tuesday, September 20. From 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., students and University faculty and staff can stop by the University Center Amphitheatre (located outdoors), and register to vote, get an absentee ballot or receive other information. When you register or show proof that you're already registered, you can enjoy a scoop of ice cream, while supplies last.

From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 4 to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, September 21 and Thursday, September 22, registration tables will be located in the Business and Engineering Center, the Health Professions Building and the University Center. Additional registration opportunities may be announced later. Progress during the registration blitz will be made public through a large visual graphic located in the University Center.

Speakers, public viewings of the presidential debates and other election-related events are also planned. Additional details will be made available as these events draw closer.

A wealth of information and resources for voters, as well as upcoming events, can be found on the Squawk the Vote website at www.usi.edu/vote.
