USI Radio/TV majors take home nine awards in Indiana competition

University of Southern Indiana Radio/TV majors won nine awards in the Indiana Association of School Broadcasters (IASB) College Competition, which is open to colleges and universities across the state that offer media programs. USI students received three first-place, three second-place and three third-place awards.
Senior, Shelby Spray from Flora, Indiana, attained first place in two categories: Air Personality, for her work as a disc jockey at USI's radio station, The Edge, as well as Television Copywriting for her public service announcement for Indiana Youth Institute.
Jevin Redman, a sophomore from Mount Vernon, Indiana, and sports director at The Edge, won first place in the Radio Interview category for his interview with Jon Mark Hall, USI athletic director. He also received second place in Radio Sportscast.
Senior, Casey Voelker from Evansville, Indiana, ranked second for his commercial for USI's Academic Skills in the Television Spot Production category. The other winner in the video competition was Bobby Shipman, a senior from Evansville, Indiana, who placed second in the Video Sound Design category.
Junior, Clay Roth from Richland, Indiana, was the third place winner for the Radio Spot Production category. He also shared second place honors for Radio Imaging with another USI student, Mike Cassidy, a junior from Dubois, Indiana.
Third place in Radio Copywriting went to Jeffrey Oskins, a junior from Mount Carmel, Illinois.
"We are always pleased to see this kind of statewide recognition," said Dave Black, assistant professor of radio/TV and faculty advisor for the student cable TV channel, SETV12. "Our students are experiencing the kind of extra effort that will bring them success beyond their years at USI."
USI's radio/TV students have now won 70 national and state awards over the past five years.
