Social Strategist to lead series of USI noncredit courses

A series of three social media courses will be offered this semester through USI’s Department of Continuing and Professional Education. The noncredit courses will cover HootSuite, Prezi, and WordPress. Two workshops, “Build and Brand your Business Using Social Media” and “Social Media Business Policies and Implementation,” will also be offered.

Dana Nelson, social strategist at OutCloud, will instruct each course and workshop. Nelson is also the co-chair and founding member of the Evansville Social Media Club, founding member of the National Media Social Club, co-chair and founding member of Evansville Girl Geek Dinners, and serves on the board of advisors of the National Social Media Club Education Connection.

Courses will meet at USI or Innovation Pointe located at 318 Main Street in downtown Evansville.

Marketing with HootSuite
Course Number: BUS584

HootSuite allows you to connect to multiple social networks from one web site and helps organizations launch marketing campaigns, identify and grow audience, and distribute targeted messages across multiple channels. Participants will learn how to schedule updates on social networks via web, desktop, or mobile platforms and track campaign results. The course will meet from 1 to 4 p.m. on Tuesday, February 12 at USI. Registration is $58.

Creating your own Website with WordPress
Course Number: BUS582

Learn how to start a web site with WordPress. The course is highly technical, but will be presented a slow and comfortable environment. The course will meet from 9 a.m. to noon on Tuesday, March 19 at Innovation Pointe. Registration is $58.

Wow then with a Prezi Presentation
Course Number: BUS577

Prezi isn't just another slide presentation software. It's an animated presentation that zooms, rotates, and keeps your audience interested. Anyone can use this free, innovative, and intriguing software to add a modern, energetic feel to presentations or slide shows. The course will meet from 6 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, March 21 at Innovation Pointe. Registration is $51.

Build and Brand Your Business Using Social Media
Course Number: BUS575

This workshop will cover Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter, as well as social media time management. Come away with a complete understanding of where you want to go with social media using practical advice from a leading social media strategist. The hands-on workshop will meet from 1 to 4 p.m. on two Thursdays, April 4 and 11 in a fully equipped computer lab at USI. Registration is $134.

Social Media Business Policies and Implementation Workshop
Course Number: BUS580

A company that decides not to address social media has already chosen a policy-the policy of not having a voice in new media. This intense three-hour session will help you understand what you need to create an online policy, or amend your current one, and gives ideas and suggestions on how to present it to your staff. Leave with a clear idea of how your company will want to address its social media policy along with outlines and templates to help you get there. The course will meet from 1 to 4 p.m. on Tuesday, April 9 at USI. Registration is $129.
