The Nursing Education Leadership specialty prepares the nurse to be an educator in schools of nursing or healthcare institutions with skills in curriculum development and implementation, budget management, leadership skills, teaching strategies for the classroom and clinical settings, and measurement of student and program outcomes. There are a total of 36 credit hours in the specialty.

The nursing education leadership graduate is prepared to:

  • Develop, implement, and evaluate nursing curriculum, teaching strategies, and evaluation methods
  • Lead strategic actions to develop and foster academic practice partnerships to build alliances that support nursing education and strengthen the nursing workforce.
  • Transform nursing education based on internal and external influences to promote safe care for diverse patient populations.
  • Model ethical principles promoting professional nursing and leadership standards.
  • Disseminate evidence-based education practices supporting innovative teaching methods.
  • Advocate for professional nursing and educational policies.
  • Develop and Integrate innovative and creative teaching strategies that consider increasing use of technology in education, changing perspectives on teaching and learning and the needs of a global society.
  • Manage financial resources for academic nursing education programs.
  • Manage a diverse workforce while promoting a healthy work environment fostering lifelong learning, self-reflection, and professional empowerment.
  • Participates in professional development to advance leadership and career development.
