Students will wear professional attire appropriate for the clinical experience. Each student must wear a name tag that identifies that individual as a University of Southern Indiana graduate nursing student.

Professional appearance is required for all clinical experiences.

  • No perfumes or odors should be detectable for clinical experiences.
  • Clothing should be clean and free of wrinkles.
  • Fingernails should be short and clean.
  • No artificial nails. Hair should be clean, dry, and restrained appropriately.
  • A wrinkle-free, clean white lab coat is required for clinical experiences.
  • No USI logo is required on lab coats.
  • Closed toe-shoes should be worn.

Additionally, students must comply with the clinical agency's dress code if more stringent.

Make up should be lightly applied. Pierced body ornamentation is limited to two earrings per ear. The earrings need to be a small post, approximately the size of a typed letter “O.” No jewelry or body adornments outside of the ear are permitted including tongue studs, eyebrow, and/or nose rings. Ornamentation that stretches or gauges the earlobe is not permitted. No rings except a single flat band are permitted. In some clinical settings, students may be required to remove all jewelry. All tattoos must be covered unless they are on the arm below the elbow and are no larger than the USI ID badge. Tattoos left uncovered below the elbow must not contain profanity or nudity. If an agency policy has more restrictions regarding tattoos/dress code, that agency’s policy will be followed.
