Burnett's article, Overpopulation, Optimal City Size and the Efficiency of Urban Sprawl, was one of Review of Urban & Regional Development Studies most frequently downloaded articles in the 12 months after online publication.
- Faculty achievement: Dr. Jack Smothers, associate professor of management, director of MBA program. Smothers' co-authored the article, "Social enterprise in Antebellum America: the case of Nashoba (1824-1829).
- Faculty achievement: Dr. Srishti Srivastava, assistant professor of computer science, receives grant award from a National Science Foundation (NSF) supported Center for Parallel and Distributed Computing Curriculum Development and Educational Resources (CDER) for developing parallel and distributed computing (PDC) curriculum at Romain College’s computer science program.

- Faculty publication: Dr. Dinko Bačić, assistant professor of computer information systems. His paper, “Biometrics & Business Information Visualization: Re-search Review, Agenda & Opportunities” was accepted to HCI International, a leading Human-Computer Interaction conference and will be published in Springer Computer Science Lecture Notes. This paper is important for the UPCI Lab as it creates a platform/research agenda well aligned with lab mission and technology.
- Faculty presentation: Virginia Weiler, instructor in marketing. Weiler presented, "Going Paperless and Increasing Retention in University Undergraduates: Blackboard as a Retention Tool in a Traditional Classroom Setting," at the BbWorld 2018 Conference in Orlando, which is Blackboard's annual conference.

- Faculty presentation: Dr. Jill Oeding, assistant professor of business law, was the presenter for the ethics session at the Institute of Management Accountants (IMA)-Evansville Chapter. Attendees at her session earned continuing professional education (CPE) credit.
- Faculty publication: Dr. Brett Bueltel and Dr. Jamie Seitz, assistant professors of accounting. Their publication, "Exploring International Whistleblower Behaviors and Legislation," was accepted by the Global Journal of Contemporary Research in Accounting, Auditing and Business Ethics.
- Faculty presentation: Dr. Srishti Srivastava, assistant professor of computer science, presented, "An Analysis of Stochastic Process Algebra Models of Resource Allocations in Parallel and Distributed Computing," at the Indian Institute of Technology, an esteemed research institution in Kanpur, India.
- Dr. Abbas Foroughi, professor of computer information systems and chair of management and information sciences; Dr. Mohammed Khayum, USI Interim Provost; and Dr. Jack Smothers, associate professor of management and MBA director, co-authored "Principle-Based MBA Course Design." Foroughi presented it at the 2018 DSI Annual Meeting in the Innovative Education and Teaching: Course Design and Assessment Session, in Chicago, IL.
