CASA Preparation

Students entering the Teacher Education program at USI are required to pass the Indiana Core Academic Skills Assessments for educator licensure. Academic Skills tutors can help students review for these tests in Reading, Math and Writing.

Reading Assistance

Reading assistance is available during the regular school year by contacting Lori Saxby, Reading Specialist.


Math Assistance

Math assistance is available by contacting Nancy Myers, Math Specialist, or visit her in person in Academic Skills (ED 1111) during the following hours:

  • Monday, Wednesday, or Friday: 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. or 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Writing Assistance

Writing assistance is available by contacting Deanna Odney, Writing Specialist, or meet with a writing consultant:

  • Mondays through Thursdays: 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
  • Fridays: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

One of the best ways to prepare is to purchase and take the CASA Practice Tests available at the link below. You will have access to the results for up to 30 days. Within that time frame, please meet with an Academic Skills professional in order to review your test and to diagnose specific issues.
