National Guard Supplemental Grant

Through a partnership with the Indiana National Guard, the Commission guarantees 100% of tuition and regularly assessed fees for eligible members of the Indiana Air and Army National Guard. Students can attend either full-time or part-time and receive the National Guard Tuition Supplement Grant (NGSG) but can only be used in the fall and spring semesters.  You MUST utilize or exhaust your GoArmyED before applying for NGSG.  If you have any questions, please consult your GOArmyEd account and review your remaining eligibility or contact the state education office the number below.

Eligibility

Indiana National Guard Requirements

  • Must be a member of the Indiana National Guard in active drilling status**
  • Must not have been AWOL at any time during the 12 months prior to their enrollment in college for any academic term**
  • Must have all required ING paperwork submitted and approved to their ING education office prior to the start of classes (each semester). Forms and submission processes differ by ING branch. Students should contact their unit commander for details.

**PLEASE NOTE: Students must contact their unit commander for certification and must be recertified each semester to receive the NGSG.

State Financial Aid Requirements

  • Must be a high school graduate or hold a GED (ING might have other restrictions)
  • Must file the current year FAFSA with an eligible Indiana institution listed.
  • Must be seeking first Associate or Bachelor’s degree at a public institution in the State of Indiana (please view the Eligible Indiana Institutions for details)
  • Must meet Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) requirements as established by the institution
  • Must have filed an application for and, if applicable, used any federal and state financial assistance available to attend a State institution

The NGSG covers only certain tuition charges and does not cover other expenses such as room and board or textbooks. It is subject to available funds.  If questions arise about Indiana National Guard eligibility and certification, the student should start with his or her unit commander or state education office:

Amount

The grant pays up to 100% of regularly assessed tuition and fees at the undergraduate rate.

Funds are available for fall and spring terms only, and are capped at 8 semesters. The Indiana National Guard reserves the right, in cooperation with the state, to revoke for cause the NGSG at any time.

Funds can only be utilized to cover tuition and fees not covered by the terms of the Federal Tuition Assistance program.  Fees must apply to all students, both residential and distance learning in order to be covered by NGSG.

Disbursement of Funds

Funds are applied directly to the student's account after the University certifies enrollment. This typically takes place after the fourth week of classes.

National Guard Extension Scholarship

The National Guard Extension Scholarship is a limited scholarship available to former Guard members who left the Guard under honorable discharge conditions, used the NGSG in the past, and who served on active duty overseas since Sept. 10, 2001.
