Expectations of Directors serving on the Historic New Harmony Advisory Board

1. A Historic New Harmony Advisory Board member should have a keen interest in and knowledge of the history of New Harmony and its founding as a Utopian community and should be supportive of historic preservation and educational programming for youth and adults. 
   
   
2. An Advisory Board member should be aware and supportive of the connectional relationship of Historic New Harmony with the University of Southern Indiana and should support the value of being a unified program of the University of Southern Indiana and the Indiana State Museum and Historic Sites.
   
   
3. An Advisory Board member should make a commitment to attend the quarterly board meetings and in advance of the meetings become familiar with materials related to discussions which will be on the agenda.
   
   
4. An Advisory Board member should attend Historic New Harmony sponsored events and activities.  

5. Because the Advisory Board is engaged in fundraising, a director should be willing to make an annual gift to Historic New Harmony through the USI Foundation.  Although many directors give at generous levels, the amount is not as important as the commitment to the concept of charitable giving by all directors.

6. A director should be an advocate for Historic New Harmony and be willing to identify sources of support, both financial and otherwise.  Information about donors and donations is confidential and should be treated with discretion.
   
   
7. An Advisory Board member should be willing to assume positions of leadership on the board and participate in committee work from time to time.
   
   
8. An Advisory Board member should be willing to assist in identifying and recruiting other directors who have the ability to meet the expectations of directors serving on the Historic New Harmony Advisory Board.

Subcommittees
Architecture & Historic Sites Committee – will meet quarterly (or as needed depending on the projects) to help inform and advise the Historic New Harmony team as they work to preserve and promote the architectural icons and historic sites under their care and live into the vision and mission of Historic New Harmony.

Cultural & Digital Programming Committee – will meet quarterly (or as needed depending on the projects) to help inform, advise, develop and possibly deliver our public-facing digital programming, especially as we navigate COVID-19.  The expectation is that the scope will eventually transition back to in-person programming as well.  Digital programming includes online discussion, presentations, films and events that align with the Historic New Harmony vision and mission of educating/communicating the history of New Harmony, fostering progressive thought and functioning as a differentiator for USI.

Development Committee – will meet monthly (or as needed depending on the projects) to help inform, advise, develop, and deliver rich fundraising strategies to raise needed funds for the Historic New Harmony Development Fund.

Special Events Committee  – will meet monthly (or as needed depending on the projects) to help inform, advise, develop and deliver rich fundraising strategies or events to raise needed funds for operating costs, restoration, preservation and education.  The subcommittee will work closely with the USI Foundation team and the “Development Fund” subcommittee.
